Orlando is a member in good standing of the Puerto Rico Bar Association and the Tax Section of the American Bar Association and the Puerto Rico Bar Association. He is also a member of the Tax Committee of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association, the School Council of Colegio San José since 1998 and the NYU Law School Alumni. He is also an avid collector of books, maps and other memorabilia. During November to December, 2004, Orlando served as a member of the Transition Committee of Governor Aníbal Acevedo-Vilá. On April 2005 Orlando attended the annual Graduate Tax Workshop at NYU School of Law, an event where tax reform and current developments in several areas of tax practice are discussed by the Faculty Members of the NYU School of Law. Orlando's opinion on the reform of the Puerto Rico tax system has been covered by the local press during the last two years. His article "En Torno al Sistema de Arbitrios y el Impuesto Sobre las Ventas" was published in 2003 on the magazine Ley y Foro of the Puerto Rico Bar Association. On March 17, 2005, he was invited by Cumbre Social, a non profit entity composed of more than fifty labor and non profit organizations to discuss the reform of the Puerto Rico tax system. On October 2005, he organized a workshop about the taxing power of the municipalities sponsored by the Puerto Rico Bar Association. On February 2006, he organized and served as moderator of a forum about tax reform with the participation of the House of Representatives, the Treasury Department and the CPA's Association. The forum was sponsored by AAINCO, an alliance created by ten trade and professional organizations of the construction industry. On September 2006, Orlando was a guest speaker at seminars sponsored by the Puerto Rico Bar Association and the Association of General Contractors to discuss the sales and use tax. - * - |
