Governor appoints members of Tax Reform Committee

The Governor named former Treasury Secretary Xenia Vélez as the committee’s executive director to oversee the tax reform effort. Other committee members are: Rep. Antonio Silva, Sen. Migdalia Padilla, Treasury Secretary Juan Carlos Puig, Government Development Bank President Carlos García, Economic Development & Commerce Secretary José Ramón Pérez-Riera and La Fortaleza Chief of Staff Marcos Rodríguez-Ema.

Fortuño said the reform will be based on the following basic principles: lowering the burden of all taxpayers with special emphasis on middle-class workers, rewarding work and success and fomenting economic development by propitiating savings and investment. A bill should be filed during the legislative session that begins on August 2010.
